Smile Jamaica, don’t let everyone, or everything, steal your beauty, and your happiness. People will play, the games they play, but everything will be alright. Throw, all your troubles away, let nothing ever sway your soul. It’s your simplicity, the good vibes, that makes everyone come to stay. Fry up some fish, and some breadfruit for dinner. Don’t, ever let them tell you any different, you were born to be a winner. Out of many, one people. Cool runnings, what my heart wants to see. Every heartbeat, swaying to the riddim. Everybody, loving island style, with one love, one heart, as one family; good vibes felt all over. Independent hearts and minds, rocking to the Jamdown groove. Caribbean people, whether you’re in the gully or the trench, let your heart not be troubled. Though, many rivers to cross, it’s never sink or swim, but having the strength to persevere. Let every heart say, love, hold me in your arms, rock me in your embrace. Jamaica, dreams to come true, with the hope you have found. Just like an angel, whenever you need love, it will swoop in to be, your saving grace. So, put it up, up, up, jump up and wave, celebrate your independence. For your good, it ah turn, love is turning it around. Be like a tree, planted by the water, that won’t let your love be uprooted, because the roots go deep. Put on, some lovers rock, let the fragrance of island loving, hold you sweetly; independently, Good Vibes, every day!

Historical facts:
After more than 300 hundred years of British colonial rule, Jamaica gained independence on August 6, 1962. The road to independence was long and hard, but with prominent and instrumental figures such as, Sir Alexander Bustamante, and Norman Manley, Jamaica gained its freedom for self-governance. In Jamaica, this date is celebrated as Independence Day, a national holiday! I was born there, left at age six, and have been living in Canada since!
